Brazilian citizens can visit Japan visa-free for up to 90 days under the bilateral visa exemption agreement. Updated December 2025.

Do Brazilian citizens need a visa for Japan?: No. Under the Brazil-Japan Visa Exemption Agreement (effective September 30, 2023), Brazilian passport holders can visit Japan for tourism without a visa for up to 90 days.
How long can Brazilians stay in Japan without a visa?: Brazilian citizens can stay in Japan for up to 90 days under the visa exemption. This is for tourism, visiting family or friends, business meetings, and similar activities.
Can I work in Japan under the visa exemption?: No. The visa exemption is only for short-term stays for tourism, business meetings, or visiting family. You cannot work, study, or engage in paid activities. For employment, you need a work visa.
How long is the Brazil-Japan visa exemption valid?: The agreement was signed for an initial period of 3 years, from September 30, 2023 to September 30, 2026. It is expected to be renewed, but check for updates closer to 2026.
Do I need an ePassport to enter Japan visa-free?: Yes, you need an ICAO-compliant ePassport (biometric passport) to benefit from the visa exemption. If you have an older non-biometric passport, you may need to apply for a visa.
Can I extend my stay beyond 90 days?: Extensions are generally not granted for visa-free entries. If you need to stay longer than 90 days, you must leave Japan and re-enter, or apply for an appropriate visa before your trip.
