Common questions

Do Hong Kong residents need a visa to visit Taiwan?

How do I apply for a Taiwan entry permit as a Hong Kong resident?
Apply through Taiwan’s National Immigration Agency online system at niaspeedy.immigration.gov.tw. Hong Kong-born residents can complete the entire process online and receive instant approval. Non-Hong Kong-born residents must submit additional documents and wait approximately 5 business days for processing.
What is the difference between the online permit and the standard entry permit?
The online temporary entry permit is free and instant for Hong Kong-born residents, allowing single entry and stays up to 30 days with no extensions. Standard entry/exit permits cost NT$600–2,000, allow stays up to 90 days, can be extended once for another 90 days, and come in single or multiple-entry versions valid up to 3 years.
How long can I stay in Taiwan with a Hong Kong entry permit?
The free online temporary permit allows stays up to 30 days without extension. Standard single or multiple-entry permits allow stays up to 90 days, with the option to extend once for an additional 90 days (maximum 180 days total).
What is the Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC) requirement?
Starting October 1, 2025, all travelers entering Taiwan must complete the online Taiwan Arrival Card at twac.immigration.gov.tw within 3 days before arrival. It’s free and replaces paper arrival cards. Some multiple-entry permit holders may be exempt.
Can I work in Taiwan with a Hong Kong entry permit?
No. The entry permit for Hong Kong residents is strictly for tourism, family visits, and short-term stays. Working in Taiwan without proper authorization is illegal and can result in deportation and entry bans. If you wish to work, you must apply for appropriate work authorization.
