How to apply
- Plan your dates and itinerary — Plan every city you’ll visit, where you’ll sleep each night, and what you’ll do. If you’re visiting more than one Schengen country, Italy must be your main destination (where you spend the most nights) or your first point of entry.
- Gather your documents — Passport, photos, bank statements, proof of employment, travel insurance, flight reservations, and accommodation confirmations. Download the exact checklist from the VFS Global website.
- Fill out the Schengen application form — Get the form from the VFS Global or Italian Embassy website. Everything on it must match your supporting documents exactly. Print it and sign it in both places.
- Buy travel insurance — Schengen travel insurance with at least €30,000 of coverage, valid in every member state for your whole trip. Philippine providers such as Pacific Cross, AXA, and Malayan Insurance sell Schengen-compliant policies.
- Book a VFS Global appointment — Book at VFS Global Makati through their online system. Slots fill quickly in peak season (April–August and December), so book at least 3–4 weeks ahead.
- Go to your biometrics appointment — Arrive 15 minutes early with your original passport, the printed application form, your appointment confirmation, and all supporting documents. They’ll take your fingerprints and photo, unless you gave them for a Schengen application in the last 59 months.
