Common questions
- Do South Korean citizens need a visa for the UK?
- No, South Korean citizens do not need a traditional visa for short visits to the UK. Since January 8, 2025, you need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) instead, which costs £10 and is valid for 2 years.
- How long can South Koreans stay in the UK?
- With an approved ETA, South Korean citizens can stay in the UK for up to 6 months per visit for tourism, visiting family, or business meetings. You cannot work or study for longer than 30 days.
- How long does UK ETA approval take?
- Most ETA applications are approved within 24 hours. However, you should apply at least 3 working days before travel as some applications may require additional review.
- How long is the UK ETA valid?
- The UK ETA is valid for 2 years from the date of issue, or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. It allows multiple entries during this period.
- Can I work in the UK with an ETA?
- No, the ETA does not permit employment. You can attend business meetings, conferences, and negotiations, but you cannot take a job or do paid work. For work purposes, you need a work visa.
- What if my ETA application is refused?
- If refused, you will receive notification explaining why. You may need to apply for a Standard Visitor Visa instead, which requires more documentation and an in-person appointment.
